Director SESSI visits SITE Association - Muhammad Naveed

PRESS RELEASE

13TH NOVEMBER 2018

SESSI-SITE ASSOCIATION COORDINATION

COMMITTEE FORMED

“Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI) and SITE Association of Industry have agreed to form a Coordination Committee to take care of SESSI related issues faced by the industrial workers in SITE industrial area. The Committee will comprise representatives of SESSI, SITE-East Directorate and SITE Association of Industry.”

This was stated by Director SESSI (SITE-East Directorate) Mr.Muhammad Naveed, while addressing members of SITE Association at the SITE Association’s office. He was accompanied by Deputy Director Syed Ather Hussain.

Director SESSI informed that SESSI as an institution is endeavoring to provide every possible medical facility to the registered industrial workers and believes in passing more & more benefits to them through mutual understanding. Replying to a question about issuance of notices to industries for payment of SESSI dues, he said that no such notice was issued from SESSI, SITE-East Directorate. Instead industries are informed about minimum and maximum wages required for payment of SESSI contribution.

Answering to another question about checking number of workers in the industry, Mr.Naveed said that there is no alternative to find out correct number of workers in an industry but to check factory record. Under self-assessment scheme, industries are given two years exemption from audit of which, the industrialists should take advantage. Some members raised questions about poor standard of services at the Valika Hospital.

Earlier, welcoming the Chief Guest, Chairman of EOBI, SESSI & Labour Committee Tauseef Ahmed briefed the Director SESSI about the problems faced by industrial workers related to medical treatment and expressed the hope that SESSI will take steps to improve medical facilities at its hospitals and resolve all issues with mutual consultation.

Saleem Parekh, President, SITE Association, while speaking on the occasion, demanded to restore nomination of SITE Association in SESSI Governing Body and take the industrialists onboard so that issues are resolved through mutual consultation. He stressed the need to work jointly to improve the medical facilities at Valika Hospital. He suggested to register new units under SESSI to increase contribution collection instead of passing on entire burden on existing registered industries.

Ex-Chairman SITE Younus Bashir also spoke on the occasion and stated that due to increasing cost of production, the industrial units are being converted into warehouses which is dangerous for the economic progress. He mentioned that nominations were invited from different trade bodies but only one representative from Korangi Industrial Area was included in the Governing Body. Funds deposited by industrialists in SESSI and EOBI should not be treated as tax because these are “Contributions” and as such, no collection target should be set for these contributions.

Senior Vice President Ahsan Arshad Ayub, Chairman Law & Order Committee Abdul Hadi, Chairman, APTPMA Arif Lakhani, Executive Committee Members Harris Shakoor and Farhan Ashrafi and representatives of Member industries attended the meeting in large number.
